BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The course rises from the need to deepen and compare on clinical and management aspects of pelvic floor dysfunctions. Female pelvic floor dysfunction encompasses a number of prevalent clinical conditions including urinary and fecal incontinence, obstructed defecation, sexual dysfunction and female pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse are widely prevalent in the elderly population. The primary care physician should play a leading role in identifying the presence of incontinence in this population, as it can significantly affect quality of life and well-being. Behavioral and lifestyle modification is the cornerstone in treatment and can be initiated in the primary care setting. The course is divided into three sessions and takes into consideration the full spectrum of diseases of the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor. In the first session, the focus will be on female urinary incontinence. The speakers will address the epidemiological, diagnostic and treatment aspects, with particular attention to minimally invasive treatments. The second session will focus on female genital prolapse from the surgical viewpoints comparing different techniques and the controversial use of meshes in the pelvic organ prolapse. The third session, surgical videos will be analyzed and discussed.
