The final day of the first edition of the ECAM Council Forum ‘Building Bridges with Africa and Middle East was dedicated to an historic and timely visit to San Donato Hospital group flagship San Raffaele University Hospital in Milan, one of the top hospitals in Italy. San Raffaele Hospital is affiliated with the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
Ministers and Ambassadors visited the Vita-Salute University President Dr. Paolo Rotelli, the president of the San Donato Hospital Group, who provided an overview of the highly specialised multi-disciplinary healthcare facility. By providing treatment across 50 clinical disciplines, San Raffaele medical university hospital is in the unique position to offer specialist care in the most complex patient cases. The Hospital was given scientific research status by the Italian Government (Scientific Institute for Research and Healthcare) for research in molecular medicine and innovative treatments application, such as the gene therapy.
The visit was concluded with a series of bilateral meetings during which the various Health Ministers discussed strategies that will allow for constructive engagement in health care projects that support governments and the opportunity to draft Memorandums of Understanding between parties did much to speed up the reality of a achieving a cooperation programme in such areas as training, education and research.
